چکیده

In this paper, we study the three-dimensional deformation of a vesicle membrane under the elastic bending energy, with prescribed bulk volume and surface area. Both static and dynamic deformations are considered. A newly developed energetic variational formulation is employed to give an effective Eulerian description. Efficient time and spatial discretizations are considered and implemented. Numerical experiments illustrate some fascinating phenomena that are of interests in real applications. 2005 Elsevier Inc. Modelling and simulations of multi-component lipid membranes and open membranes via diffuse interface approaches.

Diffuse interface (phase field) models are developed for multi-component vesicle membranes with different lipid compositions and membranes with free boundary. These models are used to simulate the deformation of membranes under the elastic bending energy and the line tension energy with prescribed volume and surface area constraints. By comparing our numerical simulations with recent biological...

An immersed boundary method for simulating vesicle dynamics in three dimensions

We extend our previous immersed boundary (IB) method for 3D axisymmetric inextensible vesicle in Navier-Stokes flows, [W.-F. Hu, Y. Kim, M.-C. Despite a similar spirit in numerical algorithms to the axisymmetric...

A phase field approach in the numerical study of the elastic bending energy for vesicle membranes q

In this paper, we compute the equilibrium configurations of a vesicle membrane under elastic bending energy, with prescribed volume and surface area. A variational phase field method is developed for such a problem. Discrete finite difference approximations and numerical simulations are carried out in the axial symmetrical cases. Different energetic bifurcation phenomena are discussed. 2004 Els...

Bending and Free Vibration Analyses of Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates Resting on Elastic Foundation Using a Refined Shear Deformation Theory

In this paper, a closed form solution for bending and free vibration analyses of simply supported rectangular laminated composite plates is presented. The static and free vibration behavior of symmetric and antisymmetric laminates is investigated using a refined first-order shear deformation theory. The Winkler–Pasternak two-parameter model is employed to express the interaction between the lam...
